Tampa Bay to Super Bowl

Mike Roemer / Associated Press

Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady (12) celebrates with Ali Marpet after winning the NFC championship NFL football game in Green Bay, Wis., Sunday, Jan. 24, 2021. The Buccaneers defeated the Packers 31-26 to advance to the Super Bowl.

The Kansas City Chiefs will head to Raymond James Stadium to take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as 3.5-point favorites for the second time this season.

Kansas City -3.5 over Tampa Bay was the opening betting line for Super Bowl 55 at the Westgate Las Vegas SuperBook, which became the first sports book to post a number Sunday evening when the matchup became clear. The game is scheduled for Feb. 7 with the Buccaneers set to become the first team to play for the NFL championship in their home stadium. The points total is 57.

Tampa Bay advanced to the second Super Bowl in franchise history by upsetting the Green Bay Packers 31-26 as 3-point underdogs on the road in the NFC Championship Game. Kansas City leads Buffalo 31-15 late in the AFC Championship Game.

The Westgate posted the number after a deep Bills’ drive ended in an interception early in the fourth quarter.

The Chiefs will be looking to become the first back-to-back Super Bowl champions in 16 years, since current Buccaneers quarterback Tom Brady won with the Patriots in 2004 and 2005. Kansas City defeated San Francisco 31-20 as closing 1-point favorites last year. The Chiefs also beat the Buccaneers on the road earlier this year, though failed to cover the aforementioned 3.5-point spread in a 27-24 win.
