The Clark High School football team couldn’t have asked for a better six days to open the season.

D’On Williams had four rushing touchdowns and an interception return for a score tonight as the Chargers beat Sunrise Mountain, 42-0. Six days earlier, Clark opened the season with a 55-0 win against Cheyenne.

For a program that hasn’t seriously threatened for a championship since the 1990s, the results have certainly brought some excitement.

“We are slowly trying to put things together,” coach Deumaine Reeder said. “The kids are buying in. As coaches, we are trying to keep the kids humble and stay even-keel — not too high and not too low because there’s another opponent next week.”

Lebon Makwashim added a 95-yard touchdown run for the Chargers, and Jaylen Johnson scored on a long reception. Defensively, Marquise Hill had two interceptions.

“We tell the kids to leave it on the field every game and that failure isn’t an option,” Reeder said.
