Moapa Valley hasn’t lost many games to class 3A opponents in Southern Nevada over the past 15 years.

When a team does beat the powerhouse Pirates, they tend to remember. And when that defeat is at home in Overton, it’s especially tough to forget.

Austin Heiselbetz had four catches for 153 yards and two touchdowns today for Moapa Valley and also had an 80-yard interception return for a score, helping the Pirates avenge a 2019 loss to Boulder City in a 54-14 victory.

“We came out with some determination. We don’t like coming off a loss,” Moapa Valley coach Brent Lewis said.

Peyton Neilson completed 14 of 19 passes for 284 yards and five touchdowns, also hooking up with Dustin Gordon, Gunner Redd and Eli Cox for scores. Redd added a rushing touchdown and a kickoff return for a score.

Moapa Valley improves to 3-0 with the win, but Lewis says there’s plenty of work still to be done. “We have a long ways to go. It’s a long season,” he said.
