First take on new-look UNLV basketball

The UNLV basketball team is back with official practices ahead of the 2021-22 season. The Sun’s Mike Grimala and Ray Brewer give an early glimpse of how the program looks ahead of coach Kevin Kruger’s maiden season.

The UNLV basketball team is back on the court for official practices ahead of the Nov. 10 season opener against Gardner-Webb.

First-year coach Kevin Kruger remade the roster with 10 transfers, and if one practice is any indication, those transfers are bringing much athleticism to the program, the Sun’s Mike Grimala says on this edition of the Rebel Room.

Grimala gives his impressions from the initial training session, where players such as Kent State transfer Michael Nuga and Texas transfer Royce Hamm Jr. flashed signs of good play. They will combine with senior Bryce Hamilton to give UNLV an enhanced rotation — if anything, they’ll produce a more exciting brand of basketball.

But who will play point guard? How will they navigate a schedule including UCLA and Michigan in the initial six games? And can they sneak into the NCAA Tournament?

We discuss that and more on this edition of the Rebel Room.
