Members of the Liberty High School football team are pictured during the Las Vegas Sun’s high school football media day at the Red Rock Resort on August 3rd, 2021. They include, from left, Germie Bernard, Anthony Jones and Sir Mells.

Liberty’s Jayden Maiava passed for 262 yards and four touchdowns tonight against host Desert Pines and the Patriots cruised to a 42-7 victory in the regular season finale.

In what was expected to be a close battle, Liberty led 42-0 at halftime.

“It was the best game we have played all year,” Liberty coach Rich Muraco said. “The kids are motivated. We are peaking at the right time of the season.”

Maiava had a 72-yard touchdown to Germie Bernard, a 62-yard scoring strike to Marques Johnson, and a pair of touchdowns to Landon Bell. Maiava also rushed for a score and Bernard had a punt return for touchdown.

Up next for the defending state champs: A date with Legacy to open the postseason. Desert Pines likely gets a rematch for Arbor View. The NIAA will later release the playoff brackets.

“The line is gelling and the defense has been playing great all year,” Muraco said. “I like where we are at.”
