The Bishop Gorman football team extended its shutout streak to six games tonight with a 51-0 victory against Faith Lutheran in the opening round of the class 5A playoffs.

Zachariah Branch opened the scoring with a 28-yard touchdown reception from Micah Alejado and then an 11-yard scoring run.

William Stallings Jr., Micah Kaapana and Alejado added touchdown runs in the second quarter to give Gorman a 37-0 halftime edge.

“For a Thursday night game, the kids did well. They ground it out and got a win against a good team,” Gorman coach Brent Browner said. “They’ve got some guys who can play over there.”

Kaapana added another touchdown in the second half. Alejado finished with 165 passing yards and one touchdown in completing 10 of 13 passes.

Gorman advances to play Foothill, which it beat last week in the regular season finale.

“We know it’s going to be hard to beat a team twice like that,” Browner said.
