Players warm up before a game between the UNLv Rebels and the Benedictine Mesa (Ariz.) Redhawks at the Thomas & Mack Center Thursday Jan. 21, 2021.

UNLV basketball will require fans to provide proof of vaccination to attend games at the Thomas & Mack Center this season, the team announced today.

Once inside the arena, fans vaccinated against COVID-19 will not be required to wear masks.

UNLV opens the season with a home game against Gardner-Webb on Nov. 10. The Thomas & Mack Center will allow full capacity, which is 17,923 for basketball games.

UNLV interim Athletic Director Erick Harper said in a statement that the program is following state directives set forth by Gov. Steve Sisolak.

“We are committed to the health and safety of our Rebel community,” Harper said. “The best way to protect yourself and others from this virus is to be fully vaccinated and we encourage all to get vaccinated if they haven’t already done so. Having a fully vaccinated audience will also allow fans to experience the games without wearing masks.”

Fans who are not eligible for vaccination will be allowed to attend but will have to wear a mask and follow other state and local health guidelines.

After the opener, UNLV has home dates against Cal on Nov. 13 and North Dakota State on Nov. 15.
