Jaquieze Holland rushed for three touchdowns and 145 yards tonight for the Shadow Ridge football team in a 38-7 victory against Durango in the state quarterfinals.
The win pushes the Mustangs into next week’s state semifinals against Las Vegas. It’s the furthest Shadow Ridge has advanced in the postseason since the mid-2000s.
“The kids are excited. They are ready to go,” Shadow Ridge coach Travis Foster said. “They have been very consistent in their approach and attitude. Some of that is because every time we thought we were world-beaters, we ended up being beat.”
Shadow Ridge was defeated by two of the other three teams in the semifinals, losing in lopsided fashion to state favorite Silverado and falling in a close game with Coronado. Silverado and Coronado play in the other semifinal.
Shadow Ridge trailed Durango 7-6 in the second quarter, but closed the game with 32 unanswered points to pull away.
Coen Coloma and Maddyx Valenzuela also had rushing touchdowns for Shadow Ridge.
