Nike’s newest Mercurial soccer cleat its looking to push the envelope with innovation.

Today, the brand unveiled the all-new Nike Air Zoom Mercurial boot prior to both the men’s and women’s FIFA World Cup competitions taking place this fall and next summer, respectively. According to the brand, the upper of the latest Mercurial cleat features a Vaporposite+ material that’s coupled with a Speed Cage design at the heel to provide support to where players need it most. The standout design of the new boot is the three-quarter length Zoom bag that sits directly inside the midsole’s plate, which the brand says helps players feel closer to the ground for additional energy return.

“While sprinting and cutting at high speeds, it’s important that the footballer feels secure in the boot. The Vaporposite+ upper was further refined to provide a lockdown fit through a data-driven designed speed cage providing optimal support of the foot in areas where footballers need it most,” said Collin Eder, the senior director of Global Football Footwear at Nike.

There are currently no release details available for the new Nike Air Zoom Mercurial boot but it will make its debut on the pitch by various brand-sponsored athletes in their respective soccer tournaments this summer.
