As someone who comes from a very small, conservative, country town and is also openly gay, I commend Tyler for this video. The right seems to have an opposition to cancel culture, but quickly deems Tyler "cancelled" because of a video like this one. Politics aside, this video is real and sheds a light on a situation that may have not been talked about, but has occurred countless times in the past. The hypocrisy is undeniable. I am so proud to be able to listen to the genre of music I grew up with and love and know that there are artists like Tyler Childers who are unafraid of the backlash of stepping outside of the country music normal. As I have said before, and will continue to say, the side of hatred and bigotry will be defeated. Those of you who are "cancelling" Tyler, like the little snowflakes (see what I did there?) that you are, can go to hell. Not to mention you probably will naturally, by the unwarranted judgement you pass as a human being with no right to do so at all.
I’ve haven’t watched a music video more than once in YEARS, but enlisting Silas House on this project made me watch it over and over.
To show so many emotions in just 4 minutes is wild. The struggle, the community, the love, the grief. I truly saw love and life flash before my eyes.
I encourage y’all to read the interview House and Childers did with NPR. It really dives into the importance of balancing the too-common struggle many LGBTQIA people face with the flip side of chosen family and the rare tenderness that comes with loving, no matter how short.
Such a phenomenal job that felt truly genuine. Cheers to everyone who worked on this.
