Aces vs Sky: Game 2

Steve Marcus

Las Vegas Aces forward A’ja Wilson (22) takes a shot over Chicago Sky forward Alanna Smith (8) during the first half of a Game 2 in a first-round WNBA basketball playoff series Sunday, Sept. 17, 2023, in Las Vegas.

The Aces are moving on.

Behind a franchise playoff record 38 points and 16 rebounds from A’ja Wilson, the Aces completed the two-game sweep of the Chicago Sky, 92-70 in Game 2 of the first round at Michelob Ultra Arena on Sunday.

The Aces will play the winner of the Atlanta Dream-Dallas Wings series in the league semifinals. Game 1 is set for Sept. 24 (Time TBD) at Michelob Ultra Arena.

Wilson shot 15 of 23 from the floor and added four blocks and three steals. Jackie Young had 15 points.

The Aces will be in the semifinals for the fifth consecutive season in their six years since relocating to Las Vegas in 2018. The defending WNBA champions will try for their third trip to the finals in that stretch.

Despite leading by as many as 28 points, the Aces saw their lead shrink to as little as nine in the fourth quarter. But Las Vegas went on an 11-0 run following a timeout to extend the lead to 82-62.

Wilson left the game with three minutes remaining after her and Young collided for an offensive rebound. She was slow to get off the court, but stayed on the bench.

This is a developing story. Check back later for updates.
