For the season nine premiere of Complex’s hit series Sneaker Shopping, host Joe La Puma is joined at Flight Club Los Angeles by French soccer star Kylian Mbappé.
Throughout the interview, the Paris Saint-Germain forward discusses playing soccer in his favorite pair of Nike Air Max 1s as a kid, the area he grew up in Paris influencing his style, his love for the Air Jordan 1, the PSG x Air Jordan collaboration, the legacy of the Nike Mercurial boot, and more.
“My first pair was the Air Max 1. I wore them to school everyday. I cleaned them everyday. I took care of them like the apple of my eye. It was something really important,” says Mbappé. “I really cared about these shoes. But to me, soccer is more than a passion, and I can never resist it. So yeah, one day I played wearing my Air Max, and I killed them. I was disappointed, but then I thought it was for a good cause. It was for soccer, so that was okay.”
