Lady Rebels vs Stanford Cardinal

Steve Marcus

Pyrotechnics explode at the Thomas & Mack Center before a game between the UNLV Lady Rebels and the Stanford Cardinal at the Thomas & Mack Center Saturday, Dec. 5, 2020. The games are being played without fans due to COVID-19.

The UNLV basketball game set for Monday night against Pepperdine has been canceled due to a positive COVID-19 test within the UNLV program.

The school announced the cancelation on Monday afternoon, just hours before the scheduled tip-off:

This marks the second straight UNLV home game that has been canceled due to positive tests. After the team played its first five games without a hitch — the home opener, three games at the Maui Invitational in Asheville, then a road game at Kansas State — they have now gone nine days without a game and won’t take the court again until Mountain West play begins on Dec. 20.

UNLV was supposed to host Eastern Washington last Wednesday, but a positive test the day before forced that game to be dropped.

The Mountain West has not yet released its testing policy and guidelines for the 2020-21 campaign, so it is unknown how this positive test might affect player availability for Sunday’s scheduled contest at Wyoming.
