UNLV Rebels Preseason Practice

Wade Vandervort

UNLV Rebels head coach Kevin Kruger leads practice at the Thomas & Mack Center Wednesday, Sept. 28, 2022.

After spending much of the summer focusing on building the 2023-24 roster, UNLV picked up its first commitment in the 2024 class on Friday when prep wing James Evans pledged to the Scarlet and Gray.

Evans, a 6-foot-7 forward, made the announcement via social media.

The commitment came following Evans’ official visit to the UNLV campus. A 3-star recruit according to 247 Sports, he also considered offers from Utah State, Washington and Southern Utah before choosing Kevin Kruger and UNLV.

Evans is rated as the No. 150 player in his class.

UNLV is set to lose at least six players to graduation after the coming season, so nabbing an early commitment from Evans should give the coaching staff a head start on reconstructing the 2024-25 roster. There is currently one open scholarship remaining for 2023-24.
