Golden Knights Fall to Canucks, 3-1

Steve Marcus

Vancouver Canucks defenseman Quinn Hughes (43) scores against Vegas Golden Knights goaltender Adin Hill (33) during the first period of an NHL hockey game at T-Mobile Arena Thursday, March 7, 2024.

Even with two new additions to invigorate the locker room, the Golden Knights’ struggles remain.

Vegas lost for the seventh time in eight games and fourth in a row following a 3-1 loss to the Vancouver Canucks at T-Mobile Arena on Thursday.

The Golden Knights (33-23-7) played their first home game since going 1-3-1 on a five-game East Coast road trip that was bookended by losses in Buffalo and Columbus by a combined score of 13-5.

General manager Kelly McCrimmon spent the three days off trying to bolster the roster prior to Friday’s trade deadline, acquiring forward Anthony Mantha and defenseman Noah Hanifin.

That was supposed to bring some form of change. Everything appeared to stay the same.

The Canucks jumped out to a 2-0 lead early in the first period thanks to goals from Quinn Hughes and Phillip Di Giuseppe that came 55 seconds apart. Vancouver had a 15-2 edge in shots at one point, as Vegas struggled to establish momentum in the offensive zone.

Michael Amadio scored the lone goal for the Golden Knights at 3:50 of the second to cut the lead to 2-1 by way of a shot from the point. But the Canucks restored the lead back to two when Conor Garland scored off a defensive-zone turnover from Mason Morelli at 15:58.

Adin Hill made 32 saves, but lost his third consecutive start. He’s allowed 13 goals in that stretch.

This is a developing story. Check back later for updates.
