The Golden Knights gave up conditional first- and third-round draft picks last month in acquiring defenseman Noah Hanifin from Calgary at the league trade deadline.
It was a calculated risk, considering Hanifin was months away from being an unrestricted free agent. Vegas took care of the contract today.
The Knights are signing the 28-year-old Hanifin to an eight-year extension with a $7.35 million average annual value, the franchise said.
Hanifin has nine points in 16 games with Vegas and leads the team with a +7 rating. He’s got 44 points (13 goals, 31 assists) for the season — the second time in his career he surpassed 40 points.
