There have been rumblings around New York City lately, and not only due to some shifty tectonic plates: The fine-tuned menswear label Bode is gearing up to drop a new retro-silhouetted Nike sneaker, and they’ve got an A-list customer to help spread the news.

This week, the model Kaia Gerber modeled the unreleased Bode x Nike Astrograbbers in New York City, pairing the black leather sneakers with a roomy navy wool coat, dark trousers, thin-framed eyeglasses, and silver AirPods Max headphones.

The brand’s Instagram account then posted a paparazzi photo of Gerber on Friday, confirming the sneakers’ official release date: the Bode x Nike Astrograbbers will be available for purchase on April 18, starting at 11:59 p.m. ET.

The Bode x Nike Astrograbbers—which feature an oversized cream Swoosh, cleat-like treads, and brass athletic-themed charms on the laces—are modeled after Nike’s marquee waffle-soled football trainers from the 1970s. The shoes first appeared last fall in the label’s ready-to-wear collection called The Bode Recreation, which designer Emily Adams Bode Aujla described as their “interpretation of American athletic wear, largely inspired from the 1770s through the 1970s.” In February, the sneakers reappeared on Baltimore Ravens linebacker Roquan Smith, who wore them in a GQ Sports video. Select other VIPs, including menswear dilettante Ayo Edebiri and GQ’s fashion writer Sam Hine, also received early pairs.

Just as the Adidas Samba hype cycle reaches its long-overdue conclusion—nothing like a Rishi Sunak cosign to send a trend off to sea—the time is nigh for a new It sneaker. Thankfully, Bode and Nike are deploying the ideal replacement at precisely the right time.
