The New Balance 993 ‘Chive’ Is a Surprisingly Spicy Sneaker

When it comes to New Balance‘s 99X series, the 993 has always been seen as the most underrated pair of the lot. But this season, the Boston sportswear company will be giving it the love that it deserves with colorways like the New Balance 993 ‘Chive.’ And even though they haven’t even released yet, sneaker Twitter is going absolutely bonkers for ’em.

993s usually come in gray, gray, and—you guessed it—even more gray, so the ‘Chive’ is a nice departure from this old school aesthetic. Working on top of a mesh base which is perfect for those stuffy summer afternoons, these sneakers are overlaid by panels and panels of pigskin suede throughout. A dash of leather hits the “N” logo across the lateral and medial sidewalls, and the tongue and laces are both sprinkled with a clean ‘Sea Salt’ hue.

Look below, and the ridiculously thiccc midsole is infused with Abzorb tech for exceptional comfort and cushioning. And because this silhouette was originally designed to be a running shoe, it’s lined with a grippy Ndurance rubber outsole—perfect for all those jogs that you won’t be going on. “USA” is then stitched around the heel, just in case you didn’t know that these were made domestically.
